Dhaka Capitals has appointed Shoaib Akhtar as a mentor for the next edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The former pacer himself is looking forward to working in franchise tournaments. Shoaib expressed his love for Bangladesh in a video message.
He said, “Bangladesh is a place I love very much. It is a place close to my heart. I have not been there for 10-15 years. I will work as a mentor for Dhaka Capitals in the BPL. I will meet you all. I love you all very much.”
Shoaib was not seen as a coach or mentor in the first 11 editions of the BPL. Rawalpindi Express is waiting for the 12th edition. Confirming his appointment as a mentor, Dhaka recently wrote in a statement, “Speed matches strategy. Our mentor is Shoaib Akhtar. Let the roar begin.”
Shoaib retired from cricket long ago. He has been working as a media personality since saying goodbye to 22 yards. He is also seen in various analytical programs. He also makes videos about cricket on his YouTube channel. Shoaib talks about cricket from different countries besides Pakistan.
Dhaka Capitals made their debut in the BPL with the 11th edition. Multiple sources from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said that according to the agreement, Shakib will be the owner of the Rajdhanipara franchise for the next five years. The first edition of the BPL did not go well for them. Dhaka finished the tournament sixth out of seven teams. They won only three of their 12 matches.
Dhaka is building a strong team by learning from the failure of the first edition. They have already brought in familiar faces like Alex Hales, Usman Khan, Taskin Ahmed, and Saif Hasan.
